What has Blizzard confirmed?
One line in "Forging the Next Era": your inventory plays a key role in how you wield your arsenal, and "larger items once again take up more slots in your inventory." Confirmed[B1] news.blizzard.com · verified Oct 10, 2026
At the BlizzCon panel, senior game director Joe Shely pointed out the "multi-slot items" on the screen and tied them to item identity: you see an item on the ground, then in your inventory, and once you put it on it may look different again. Why bring back inventory Tetris?
Identity. Blizzard sums up its loot philosophy as "Depth, clarity, and identity." An item that takes up more room is easier to read: a spear can't fit where a ring does. Confirmed[T2] warcraft.blizzplanet.com · verified Oct 6, 2026
All of Diablo 5's itemization looks back to Diablo II, and the inventory is part of that return. Blizzard wants items that are "readable, memorable, and worth chasing across hundreds of hours." Confirmed[B1] news.blizzard.com · verified Oct 10, 2026
Senior art director John Mueller added that the art team loves the larger icons and the familiarity they bring. Confirmed[T2] warcraft.blizzplanet.com · verified Oct 6, 2026

- Provisional[B1] bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net · verified Oct 6, 2026Colored frames (gray, green, blue, gold and a reddish one) with no legend. Only two can be read on a tooltip: blue = Magic, gold = Rare.

What about controller players?
Blizzard is thinking about it but hasn't shown anything. On stage, Shely spoke directly to controller players "who might be worried about manipulating those items in their inventory" and said the team has "some really great solutions." He didn't say what they are. Confirmed[T2] warcraft.blizzplanet.com · verified Oct 6, 2026
No platforms have been announced, so Blizzard hasn't said which consoles will use a controller either. → Diablo 5 platforms
When can we try it?
Once Blizzard publishes sizes. We're preparing an interactive inventory where you'll be able to place items at their real size and check their tooltips. The BlizzCon mockup can't be measured reliably, and we won't build it on made-up numbers. Until there's official data, this tool stays hidden.
What we don't know yet
As of October 10, 2026, Blizzard has not said:
- how many slots the bag has;
- how many slots each item type takes;
- whether there's a stash, cube or extra bags;
- how the controller solutions work;
- whether the mockup's gear slots are final.
